Israeli forces have killed more than 400 people, including patients, the displaced, and medical workers during their 13-day siege of Al-Shifa Hospital, Gaza’s government media office reported on 31 March.
The ministry added that during the siege on Gaza’s largest medical facility, where thousands of patients and displaced people are sheltering, Israeli troops have detained and tortured hundreds while destroying and or setting fire to 1,050 nearby houses.
On 27 March, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor reported that Israeli forces had killed 13 children between the ages of 4 and 16 during operations in and around Al-Shifa in the previous week.
“Some of the fatal shootings occurred during an Israeli army siege while the victims’ families were inside their homes; others occurred when the victims attempted to escape via routes that the Israeli army had designated as ‘safe’ after forcibly evacuating them from their homes and places of residence,” the report stated.
Normalize making idf soldiers social pariahs
This is in no way in support of this specific person, or of the action of Israel - but isn’t a fixed term military service mandatory in Israel? Which means even those morally against the actions of Israel don’t necessarily have a choice, in a similar way to American soldiers. I just think there’s slightly more nuance here, surely? (But if you think I’m wrong please do explain, I may not know enough.)
Yes it is “mandatory” but it is possible to dodge a draft. The military cannot sustain itself without the participation of citizens ans I think choosing between murdering Palestinians vs going to jail for a few months is a easy moral choice to make honestly.
The US government recently tried to pass a bill that would make it illegal to boycott. Consumers saying that we refuse to buy from companies that fund or support genocide DOES have power and impact. The BDS movement also isn’t an overnight trend. It can last years or even decades. That’s the commitment. So what do you mean we aren’t doing much? Many stores have had to be closed, and lots of money has been lost for Starbucks and McDonald’s, as just 2 examples.
I also already wrote about the dangerous slippery slope of censorship. It doesn’t make a difference if you don’t like tiktok (even though, just to clarify -tiktok has a plethora of content, which includes plenty of amazing educational content creators too) -it’s also where A LOT of people get accessible, up-to-date information about world events -including what has been happening in Gaza. You know -the genocide the US and many fellow countries are vehemently denying. A genocide that is being funded by US tax dollars.
“Emotional thinking” is also a very interesting concept to me because where do you think this passion comes from Congressional Representatives? Who so desperately want to shut down an app more than they want to end gun violence, to push for rent control, free tuition, universal Healthcare…
This defeatist mentality -this apathetic mentality is killing people. Shame on you.
This is really good but I also would like to point out that measuring boycotts by sanctions and other legal measures is not the most effective, as well as whether or not businesses close. The measure of effectiveness is by the direct demands being met — for example with Ben & Jerry’s and Pillsburry. Most recently, PUMA. So our demands are being met, albeit more rapidly I feel in recent months. To say that it doesn’t work is by far the laziest analysis of the goals of BDS or the intent of boycotting as a whole. If HP, for example, would withdraw their support, then so much of the surveillance software and hardware used would not be sustainable. They would have to scramble for a new contract. And with smaller business (that are not necessarily on HP level but big enough to know about) like Goldie’s and the parent company that owns it, we have pretty direct demands there too.
I’m not saying I don’t think Starbucks and McDonald’s boycotts aren’t working, I’m just saying there’s material, direct proof of impact in Palestine that we can show with these boycotts that we should point to whenever possible to energize ourselves and really make companies worried.
Today 40 Palestinians died in an Israeli shelling of homes in central Gaza, while more than 100 were severely injured (majority women and children). Yesterday Israel bombed Syria, killing two. Israel also bombed Lebanon, killing a woman and a girl.
Just to be crystal clear—Israel is now simultaneously bombing Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.
As all of this is transpiring, US asks the ICJ not to call for an immediate end of the occupation. Reasoning? Israel’s “security concerns” need to be taken into consideration, due to the Hamas attack on October 7. As a reminder, the Hamas attack killed 1,139 Israelis—while Israel’s ongoing genocide has killed an estimated 29,000 Palestinians. And the reason it’s “estimated” is because a lot of bodies are still buried under rubble and unaccounted for.
A John Hopkins report estimates that the number of Palestinians dead could surpass 74,000 in the next 6 months.
it’s worth reiterating that Israel is intensifying its attacks in conjunction with an all-time low of aid trucks allowed to enter Gaza. It was reported the other day that this number fell from an average of 133 to an average of 47 throughout February. Only 4 trucks have entered Gaza this Wednesday. If they’re not massacring Palestinians, they’re starving them half to death.
If this isn’t pure evil, I actually don’t know what is.
Please donate to Palestinian families trying to evacuate this bloodbath. And if you can’t, spread this as far as you can. Hundreds of Palestinians are dying every day. At this point it has come to funding them or watching them die.
Can we seriously think about why an occupied entity has to concern itself with the occupiers security. Does that make a single bit of sense.
i don’t want to live in a world like this
People on here are making fun of palestinians for saying they coincided the bombing of Rafah with the superbowl, calling us “american centric” and “conceited” as if we haven’t experienced literal years of this before. This is not new, that israel coincides their slaughter campaigns with major american events. you just have never listened before this.
Making fun of Palestinians for talking about how voices in Rafah and Gaza at large are being drowned out by posting about the superbowl is not a good look when you claim to care about Palestinians.
